Tongue cancer is a type of oral cancer that usually develops in the squamous cells which form the surface of the tongue. It develops at the front surface of the tongue, though Cancer can develop in two different areas of the tongue. Cancer developed at the back of the tongue is called oropharyngeal cancer. Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common type of tongue cancer. The primary symptoms of tongue cancer are a painful tongue and sore on the tongue that does not heal.
